A man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 at the Davidson County–Rutherford County line early Wednesday, WSMV reports.

The crash involved a semi-truck and two other vehicles just after 2am in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 63.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a semi had been left unoccupied and was blocking two lanes of traffic after an earlier wreck.

While traveling east, 56-year-old Hector Rodriguez Banuelos struck the disabled truck with his Chevrolet Silverado, then collided with a passing tractor-trailer. His vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the interstate.

Banuelos was killed, while the tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

Traffic remained backed up for hours as investigators worked the scene and crews cleared the wreckage. All lanes were back open by 8am.
