Baseball Roundup: Riverdale Shuts Out Blackman


Kyle Chandler tossed a three-hit shutout and Sam Braswell backed his pitcher with two doubles and two runs scored as the Riverdale Warriors stunned top-seeded Blackman, 4-0, in the District 7-AAA tournament.
The Warriors (19-13) remain in the winners bracket, while the Blaze (23-9) fall into the losers bracket.
In other action from 7-AAA on Sunday, the Oakland Patriots got a six-hit shutout from Luke Vinson in a 1-0 win over Smyrna that took eight innings. The Bulldogs were eliminated from the tournament with the loss and finish the season 6-25. Oakland, now 15-17, moves on in the tourney and faces Siegel today. The Patriots had tkane a 13-0 drubbing from Riverdale in their tournament opener on Saturday.
Stewarts Creek rolled past LaVergne, 10-0, in the other District 7-AAA Tournament game from Sunday. The Red Hawks, the No 2 seed in the tournament, improve to 26-7 and face Riverdale in the winners bracket on Tuesday.
LaVergne had shocked defending Class AAA Siegel, 7-4, on Saturday in the first round of the tournament and is now 7-20.
On Saturday in District 8-AA tourney play, Central Magnet popped York Institute, 12-2.
In District 9-A on Saturday, Eagleville topped Middle Tennessee Christian 7-3. The Cougars, however, defeated Fayetteville 7-6.
