Central Magnet got strong pitching in sweeping a doubleheader from District 8-AA rival DeKalb County on Tuesday.
James Touchton struck out nine in a 3-1 win for the Tigers in the opener, while Chris Johnson fanned seven in tossing a shutout in an 8-0 Central win in the second game. In the second game, C.J. Campbell starred at the plate for the Tigers, going 4-for-4.
In other Rutherford County baseball action, Blackman rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to edge defending Class AAA state champion Siegel, 6-5.
Peyton Milam, Michael Dimartino, D.J. Wright and Zavien Lindsey all drove in runs for the Blaze in the victory.
Also, the Oakland Patriots won a pitchers’ duel against the LaVergne Wolverines, posting a 1-0 victory.
Riverdale won a pair of games against out-of-state competition, posting a pair of shutouts. The Warriors won 9-0 over Shawnee, Ohio and pulled out a 1-0 win over Glenbrook North, Ill.
Stewarts Creek posted a shutout of rival Smyrna, 5-0, on Tuesday.
