It’s hard to go into Maryville and win. As a matter of fact it’s hard to beat Maryville at all once the playofs begin. Blackman put up a valiant effort Friday night, but was no match for the perennial powerhouse.
A 7-7 tie early in the game , gave the Blaze hope. And then the #1 team in the state ticked off 35 straight points to take a 42-7 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. The Blaze never quit trying, as they rode the back of Master Teague for 284 yards and 3 TDS. A balanced Maryville team put up over 490 yards . Final Score : 48-28
Oakland Beats Hardin Valley
A 96 yard TD Jacoby Stevens on a kickoff return was all that was needed to quash HV’s hopes of an upset. That TD led to 42 consecutive points and a 49-7 win over the team that eliminated Riverdale last week.
That sets up the season long #1 Â v. #2 in the state matchup in Oakland next week for the chance to go to the State Championship. Both teams are undefeated. Maryville is ranked #1. Oakland is ranked #24 in USA Today.
The winner of this heavyweight matchup will go the State Championship at Tennessee Tech. On the other side of the bracket it’s one loss Cordova traveling to undefeated Whitehaven.
