United Communications and Middle Tennessee Electric announced that Smyrna residents are now eligible to sign up for an 8 Gig fiber broadband service, the fastest home internet available in Rutherford County.

The announcement was made at the launch of a free 8 Gig fiber connection at the Smyrna Boys & Girls Club, which provides students with digital learning resources and online homework assistance. Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed spoke at the event, encouraging students to strive for academic success.

United Communications first installed a local fiber optic network in Smyrna five years ago to support the town’s telecommunications and emergency services. Since 2020, the company has expanded broadband infrastructure to improve internet access for residents and businesses.

United’s fiber service offers dedicated connections with symmetrical multi-gig speeds and a 99.99% network reliability score. Monthly plans start at $49.95 with no data caps or contracts. New customers in select areas, including Smyrna, can access promotional rates on gigabit plans with free installation for a limited time.
