We are sad to announce the passing of Thomas Fowler Jackson, Jr. of Rockvale, Tennessee. He died at the age of 72 on February 20th, 2024. Tom passed away surrounded by family after a short illness.
Tom was born on August 14, 1951, in Bedford County but was a lifetime resident of Rutherford County. Tom was the only child of Thomas F. Jackson, Sr., and Jane (Sudberry) Jackson.
He graduated from Eagleville High School in 1969. He went on to Middle Tennessee State and graduated in 1974. Tom continued his education at Memphis State’s School of Law and received his Law Degree in 1977.
Tom served in the Army National Guard for 4 years during this time. After graduation in Memphis, he had a short time in private practice then started to work at the Memphis District Attorneys office. Four years later he moved back to Rutherford County starting his career with the Rutherford County District Attorney Office in 1984. He served the State of Tennessee in that capacity as Assistant District Attorney General until his retirement in January of 2022. Altogether he spent 44 years in service to the State of Tennessee.
Tom was a man with many interests.
He got his real estate license and became an Auctioneer with Durham Realty and Auction. He was a member of their team for 37 years.
One of his favorite interests was raising Santa Gertrudis Cattle, the first fully American breed. Along with this, he showed dairy and beef cattle for a multitude of years. Tom was a member and served on the board of the Santa Gertrudis Association of Tennessee. He was also a long-time member of both the Tennessee Cattleman’s Association and Farmer’s Co-op of Rutherford County.
Tom’s hobbies included karate and playing drums. He played in several bands throughout his high school years and later in life picked it back up to play in a band with fellow attorneys and a few medical professionals. They formed a group called Casual Exchange. They played locally for close to 10 years.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his mother, Jane Sudberry Jackson, wife Lee Anna (Lane) Jackson, three daughters, Claire Jackson of Murfreesboro, Dr. Margaret Jackson of Eagleville, and Meredith (Josh) Floyd of Eagleville. Three grandchildren, Ryan Floyd, Hadley Jane, and Eliza Floyd all of Eagleville.
He is preceded in death by his father Thomas F. Jackson, Sr., son Thomas F. Jackson, III and grandson Jackson Lamb.
Tom was a devote Christian who studied scriptures and shared his faith with others.
The funeral was held at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home on Saturday, February 24th. Visitation was from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a service immediately following. There will be a private burial at the Jackson Cemetery at his ancestral home.
