October 20, 2023 – A suspect who allegedly eluded prosecution on a first-degree murder charge was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force with Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies.

Nathaniel Lamont Buchanan, 37, of Wenlon Drive in Murfreesboro was charged with fatally shooting Medrick Lamont Elliott in May 2018. He was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was released on $100,000 bond.

Circuit Court records showed several pretrial motions until Jan. 14, 2022 when Buchanan failed to show up in court. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

While out on bond on the murder charge, Buchanan was charged with possession of cocaine for resale, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm in October 2021 by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Drug Investigation Division and Rutherford County Sheriff’s narcotics detectives.

He was released on $112,000 bond on the drug and weapons charges.

Sheriff’s Office deputies, detectives and a K9 Unit responded with the U.S. Marshals task force to serve a search warrant Wednesday at Meigs Drive in Murfreesboro where Buchanan was located and taken into custody.

Buchanan is being held on $225,000 bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is scheduled to be in Circuit Court Nov. 20.
