Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies do not call residents and ask for money. If you get that type of call, immediately hang up. Don’t spend your hard-earned money on a scam.
This warning comes after someone posing as Sheriff’s Sgt. Shawn Jones called a Rutherford County resident to report they missed jury duty, said Patrol Deputy Randall Singleton.
The caller told the resident there was an arrest warrant issued for missing jury duty, Singleton said. The caller instructed the resident to go to the Sheriff’s Office and put money on a kiosk.
These types of calls are simply an attempt by a criminal to get easy money.
If you are unsure of these types of calls, don’t give any money or information on your bank account. Instead, check in with the Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 615-898-7770.
