OBITUARY: Marshall Craig James

Marshall Craig James, age 63 of Murfreesboro, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022.

A native of Rutherford County he is preceded in death by his father, Edsel James.

Craig is survived by his high school sweetheart of 38 years: Debi James; sons: Justin (Jackie) James of Murfreesboro, TN and Michael James of Huntsville, AL; daughter: Jessica (Jonathan) James Hankins of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren: Landon James Hankins; mother Alice Ryan James; brothers: Tim and Mark James; nephew: Trevor (Lindsey) James; nieces: Tia and Tessa James; two dogs: Beau and Belle; and many-many cousins.

Craig Proudly served his country aboard the SSN Sturgeon as a Sonar Tech for the US Navy. While serving in the Navy, he and Debi lived in Charleston, a city they both adore.

The Navy taught Craig the technical skills he would need once he returned to Murfreesboro and began working at Nissan, where he would work for 31 years before retirement. At Nissan, Craig would become affectionately known as “The Legend.”

Craig coached Justin’s Youth Football team for 4 years while working 7 days a week.

Craig was a bluegrass picker who could play just about any stringed instrument he picked up. He was skilled on guitar and banjo and even dabbled in fiddle; he could fingerpick or flatpick.

Craig was an avid sports fan, watching any football or baseball game on the TV, but he would never miss a Braves game and was a fan of the Vols.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, February 15, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Woodfin Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM with Tommy Ward officiating.
