OBITUARY: Laverne Crockett

Miss Laverne Crockett, age 54, formerly of Memphis, TN passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018. She was born in Gary, IN to Richard Crockett and Lucille Tate. Miss Crockett worked in Secondary Audits for the IRS. She was a member of the National Treasury Employees Union. Miss Crockett was a graduate of Memphis State University and an activist for her community. Miss Crockett was a part of the Treasury Congressional Congress in Washington, D.C. and founded the South Memphis Neighborhood Foundation. She published a book “Ms. Ora’s Place” and was working on a second.

Miss Crockett was an avid L.A. Raiders football fan. She was an active member of the Democratic Party of Memphis and encouraged people to register to vote.

Miss Crockett is survived by her mother, Lucille Tate of Murfreesboro, TN; father, Richard Crockett, Sr. of Gary, IN; siblings, Judey Crockett of Colorado, Richard Crockett, Jr. of Gary, Lauren Ann Crockett Wright and her husband Harold of Murfreesboro, Joseph A. Tate, IV of Elkridge, MD, Andre Jason Tate, Sr. and his wife Sunshine, Kagee Tate and his wife Krystle, Chandra Tate, and Asekha Tate all of Murfreesboro; nieces and nephews, Lausun Franandez of Murfreesboro, Sidra Guerrero of Milwaukee, WI, Malisha Tate of LaVergne, TN, Walter Wright of Nashville, TN, Breanna Tate McKnight and her husband Saevron, Sr. of Nashville, and many younger nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Clifford Lewis of Memphis and his son, Jonathan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Odessa and Walter Collins, and step-father, Joseph A. Tate, III.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00am at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pall bearers.
