Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Murfreesboro Police Department will be suiting up soon to play a friendly game of basketball for a good cause.
The departments, who together make up the âBoro Public Safetyâ Relay for Life Team, will be playing in a âGuns N Hosesâ game complete with raffles between each quarter. Proceeds from the game will directly benefit the Relay for Life team and will assist Rutherford Countyâs efforts to raise money for cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
The game will be Saturday, February 4 at 6:00 pm at Middle Tennessee Christian School.
MFRD Firefighter Tim Corder will be playing on Team FIRE. Corder was recently inducted into the Riverdale Boys Basketball Hall of Fame. According to the Daily News Journal, Corder (who graduated in 1988) is âstill the schoolâs all-time leading scorer (2,032 points) and rebounder. He also holds the record for steals.â
âWe are excited to have him on our team,â said Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks, who will also represent Team FIRE.
As for Corder, he says that the Hall of Fame recognition was a great honor for him, but games like these are just as rewarding. âBeing inducted into the Hall of Fame was a great honor for sure, but so is being a part of a game like this where public safety employees come together for a great cause,â Corder said. âThis game is not only beneficial to our departments, but also to the community, and Iâm looking forward to the event.â
