The end of summer and early fall is a busy time for many of us. With school in session and extracurricular activities beginning for many families, you may find that you have less and less time to commit to your workout routine. It is easy to fall out of the fitness schedule you created during the summer months, here are 5 ways you can maintain your fitness level during the busy months of the year.

1. High Intensity Interval Training

High intensity interval training (HIIT) is a style of exercise in which you workout at a higher intensity for a short period of time, followed by a few seconds of rest, followed by another period of high intensity training.

For example, if you do 40 seconds of burpees, rest for 15 seconds, then do 40 more seconds of burpees, you are completing what it called a HIIT circuit. There are many benefits to HIIT workouts. These workouts can help you complete a great workout in a shorter amount of time. HIIT workouts can also help give your metabolism a boost to keep you burning fat throughout the day.

2. Early Morning or Late Night Workouts

While you may not want to set your alarm early or have to stay up and extra half hour to complete a workout, doing so may be the perfect way to keep up your fitness routine.

Morning workouts can help you start your day on a positive note and give you a boost of energy to keep you going throughout the day. On the other hand, a nighttime workout may help you wind down and get a better night’s sleep.

“With being open 7 days a week there’s plenty of opportunity to have time to exercise. Whether you’re a morning person or night owl, the Athletic Clubs can fit your schedule. Since we’re open weekdays 5am-11pm (Close Friday at9pm), Saturday 7am-8pm and Sunday 8am-8pm, there’s no excuse not to come workout,” said Aaron Kirchner, owner of Franklin/Murfreesboro/Nashville Athletic Club.

3. Workout While Watching TV

If you don’t want to miss your favorite show but you still need to get some cardio in, workout while watching TV.  At Franklin/Murfreesboro/Nashville Athletic Clubs, cardio machines are equipped with personal viewing screens or you can watch the TVs on the wall while you do weight workouts.

4. Take Advantage of the Jungle Gym

If you have young children, you may already have time to go to the park in your schedule. Your kids are not the only ones who benefit from the jungle gym and playground equipment. Try doing arm presses against the jungle gym or pull-ups on the monkey bars. You can take advantage of the time you already have put aside to complete your workout.

5.Put it on the Calendar

It may help to write your workouts down on the calendar or in a planner so you are more likely to complete them. By setting aside a certain block of time each day to work out, you may be more likely to stick to it.

“Accountability is a major part of the exercise equation for many people. This can be achieved by either exercising with a partner or hiring a personal trainer. Scheduling time for exercise is important. Making it part of your weekly habit and routine holds you accountable to yourself. There’s no time like the present so start including exercise as part of the day,” said Kirchner.
