David Youree Elementary will celebrate its 40th year by hosting a reception and carnival Sat., Sept. 17 at DYE, 250 Todd Lane, Smyrna. DYE has strong historical roots in Smyrna with its ties to the Rock School, which is now part of the Smyrna Public Library and its many students who leave DYE and become students of one of the three middle schools in Smyrna.

“With the school’s deep roots and connection to the Smyrna community, it is important to host a celebration that will include the community,” said Scott Bolden, DYE principal.

DYECommunity leaders, past teachers, staff and current teachers and staff are invited to attend a reception preceding the carnival. The reception will include a special presentation, entertainment, refreshments as well as memorabilia from the school’s 40 years.

The public is invited to the celebration carnival from 11-2. The carnival consists of more than 20 games, inflatables and food. Wristbands will cost $25 each and will include continuous play on the games and inflatables, two slices of pizza and a soda. Only children will need wristbands; guardians may accompany their children without purchasing a wristband. Additional pizza, drinks and other concession stand items will be available for purchase.

“We’re looking forward to seeing students from past years and our current students and families at the carnival,” said Bolden.
“This is a great opportunity for Smyrna to celebrate one of its oldest schools that has played such an important role in so many children’s lives over the last 4 decades.”
