Man convicted for rape of middle school-aged girl

Rutherford County man was convicted Friday of raping a middle school-aged girl three times, a sheriff’s detective said.

Jorge Pena, 35, of Baker Road was found guilty by a Rutherford County jury after a four-day trial last week before Circuit Court Judge Royce Taylor.

Detective Bo Davis, who investigated the case with Detective Steve Craig, said an adult discovered Pena and the girl Feb. 14, 2016 inside a home.

The Department of Children’s Service, the Child Advocacy Center and Our Kids assisted in the investigation as well as the needs of the child.

Detectives interviewed Pena with the help of La Vergne Police Officer Alex Chang, who translated.

“Officer Chang played a huge role in the case,” Davis said.

Pena was convicted on three counts of rape of a child and three counts of aggravated sexual battery. He is being held in Rutherford County Adult Detention Center while awaiting a sentencing hearing April 27
