OBITUARY: Melvin Lee Gannon

Melvin Lee Gannon, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Woodbury Health and Rehab. He was a native of Wilson County but has lived most of his life in Rutherford County. He retired from the United States Air force after twenty-one years of service but served in the National Guard before entering the Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam. After his retirement from the military, he worked for Cummings Signs until he retired. He also farmed while working at Cummings Signs. Melvin was a member of the Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. After retirement from the military he and his wife bought a farm at Fosterville in Rutherford County, TN, upon retirement they moved to Woodbury, TN.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Mazel Virginia Gannon, parents; Thomas Youree and Arizona Mai Gannon, brothers, Johnny, Robert, William Murphee, Walter Lee, Thomas Cleveland, Howard and Paul Gannon and sisters; Vennia Wilson, Lucy Christine Long, Fannie Mai Gannon, Addie Mai Gannon, Susie Mai Gannon, Mary Elizabeth and Beatrice Gannon. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 3:00P.M. until 6:00P.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 and from 1:00P.M. until 2:00P.M. on Sunday, November 25 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home; 820 South Church St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 (615)893-2422.

A service for Melvin will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Pastor Mike Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Zachary Dover, Tyler Dover, Scott Granstaff, Larry Bowman, Cynthia Dover and Sharon Morgan serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Sunday school class at Franklin Road Baptist Church, Woodbury senior citizens and Woodbury Hardee breakfast gang.
