Coming off of a week where Gov. Haslam and Commissioner Boyd announced more than 1,300 job commitments, Tennessee was named 2016 âState of the Yearâ by Southern Business & Development magazine. The Town of Smyrna contributed with 1000 new jobs and $160 million dollar investment by Nissan.
Tennessee was chosen for its project totals and the variety of the industry sectors that invested in the state and created jobs. According to the report, there was a possibility Tennessee could have shared âCo-States of the Yearâ with Alabama, but our neighboring state fell short by six projects.
â2015 was the best year in economic development in the stateâs history. At 25,837 job commitments, Team Tennessee set an all-time job commitment record, and we carried that momentum into 2016,â TNECD Commissioner Randy Boyd said. âWe are honored to receive this distinction from Southern Business and Development and thank the magazine for recognizing our achievements throughout Tennessee.â
