Jason Aldean released the song “Try That in a Small Town” in May but the video was just released on Friday, July 14th. Aldean’s latest video has received a lot of attention and some are calling it controversial. Read more here.u00a0

The song reached number one iTunes chart on Wednesday, despite the decision for CMT to pull the video from rotation. The views on YouTube for the video have increased from over 1 million views to now almost 5 million views this week.

After the release of the video, several artists have responded on social media.

Sheryl Crow shared,”@Jason_Aldean I’m from a small town. Even people in small towns are sick of violence. There’s nothing small-town or American about promoting violence. You should know that better than anyone having survived a mass shooting. This is not American or small-town-like. It’s just lame.”

Jason Isbell shared,” Dare Aldean to write his next single himself. That’s what we try in my small town.”

Travis Tritt shared, “For the record, I love the new @Jason_Aldean single, “Try That In A Small Town”. IMO, this song isn’t promoting violence as some have suggested. It is simply expressing a point of view that many American people share which is against the obvious violence that we have seen from the likes of so many “activists groups” in this country in recent years and the belief shared by millions that this behavior would not be tolerated by many people in many places across the USA. God bless America and all the people in it.”

Brittany Aldean, wife of Jason Aldean shared on Instagram, “Never apologize for speaking the truth.”

  1. I agree with Travis Tritt. The song says to me and pictures violence in large cities across USA, which he says isn’t tolerated in small towns.

    • It isn’t tolerated in small towns? Have you seen this list of school shootings? Have you seen where mass shootings are happening? Small towns are not only tolerating it- we are proliferating it with the attitude that we’re any different. We are JUST as racist. We are JUST as segregated culturally, (if not more so) and we are WAY more accepting of the intolerance of anything or anyone different than what we deem normal. Diane- (and Travis Tritt, too) I dare you to actually go to a small town that’s populated by folks who do t look like you and think like you- and see if you feel tolerated. We need to be better than this.

      • There have been no shootings in our small town or anywhere close. None Where Aldeen and I live! Only in Nashville where the libs are moving to! We love our Police, kids, schools and people! If someone tried that here they’d have to deal with the people who live here! That’s all his song is saying!

    • Jason Isbell is a wannabee country star who has never quite made it as high as Jason Aldean. He’s been around Nashville for years.

    • An ACTUAL musician. You should check out his stuff. Pandora has a Jason Isbell channel. He his a singer, songwriter, musician and great talent in the Americana scene.

  2. To me it’s shows the opposite. Don’t come to a small town and commit criminal acts because we don’t put up with it here. He doesn’t mention race at all. In fact race is never mentioned at all. We can’t control what happened at a courthouse in the past all we can do is make sure it never happens again.

  3. Love the song, Americans are sick and tired of the foolishness associated with riots. Looting, destruction of properties, and violence towards others. He is just saying you may get by with it in a big city but don’t bring that junk to a small town. We love each other and do what we have to in order to protect each other’s livelihood.

  4. We forget that the left is against law and order! They are against self defense unless it them! Thats why they have body guards! We the regular people dont so we have to do it ourselves! Libs dont like that! Especially the so called “elite”! This song does NOT promote violence but it does promote self defense and taking care of ourselves and our small towns!

  5. Love the song it just tells we dont put up with it in the small town. It says we are are here to help protect our friends and family. Please get off his back over that great song.

  6. It is terrible how this world is becoming that a person can’t sing a song without being judged to death over it I love it I’m from a small town it is his right to sing or say what he wants freedom of speech but when it offends some then we put that out of the picture only when it’s good for everyone then there is nothing said

  7. So Let me get this straight. Jason Aldean makes a song about standing up against crime and his video gets pulled. Meanwhile our children are exposed to numerous songs on our mainstream media that glorify guns, drugs, violence, raping, robbing, stealing, and killing and somehow that’s acceptable? None of this is about race! It’s about ethics. Come on, America, get your shit together!!!! No debating, no arguing, no racial discrimination please!!!

  8. He (Aldean) knew exactly what he was doing. Generating controversy which in turn generates money for him and his record label. Simple as that.

  9. I’ve lived in a major city for 40 years, an international city, where people from all corners of the earth thrive and live side by side. There’s a spirit of cooperation that small towns will never come to understand unless they learn to open up their thinking to how many people, unlike themselves, co-exist. This is fear based and I don’t mean upon the population that it suspects to keep in check. It is fear of small town people who see that the world is changing and they don’t have a clue as to how to fit in.
