Notes

For a tender and juicy beer can chicken, brine the chicken for 4 hours or up to overnight using Savory’s Brining Mix. It’s also a great recipe for trying out one of our easy-to-use Smoke Cans, which will smoke for up to an hour on a gas or charcoal grill.

Directions

Pat chicken dry with paper towel and rub generously with salt & pepper and BBQ rub of choice. Preheat grill. For charcoal grill, move coals to one side of the grill. Slide chicken over open beer can so it stands up on its own, resting on the can. Set beer can chicken on an aluminum pie tin. (Or use heavy foil to create a makeshift tray; fold up the edges of the foil to make a slight bowl shape to any catch dripping juices.) Set beer can chicken in its foil base on grill on the opposite side of the heat source. Cover grill and cook chicken for a total of 1 to 1½ hours until meatiest part reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Rotate chicken a quarter turn every 15 min. for even cooking, basting it with optional BBQ sauce or mop sauce with each turn. Remove chicken from grill and let rest 10 to 15 min. before carving and serving.
