5 New Tennessee Laws in Effect July 1

On July 1 a new fiscal year will start in state and local governments of Tennessee.

This year, 133 new laws lock into place. Here are some that might most affect you.

Gasoline Tax Hike 

This is the most far-reaching law, and by far the most likely to affect the most people. Gov. Bill Haslam’s Improve Act, which will raise money improve important state infrastructure, lowers taxes on food but makes up for it with an increased tax on gasoline.

Groceries taxed at 5 percent, will now be at 4 percent. But gas will go up $0.04 per gallon beginning on the first.
