At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents continue to investigate the circumstances of an officer-involved shooting late Sunday morning in Murfreesboro.

Preliminary information indicates several law enforcement agencies in Rutherford and Bedford counties were involved in efforts to arrest Jesse Caldwell (DOB 6-10-94) on warrants charging him in connection to several crimes over the past week. On Sunday, after spotting a vehicle authorities suspect Caldwell stole, officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department pursued Caldwell to a location in the 500 block of Twin Oak Drive. There, an officer exited his vehicle, identified Caldwell, and shot into the vehicle. Caldwell was not shot, but sustained minor injuries from broken glass. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

After being examined and treated at a local hospital, authorities booked Caldwell in to the Rutherford County Jail.

TBI Agents continue to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. Throughout the investigative process, findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration. As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.

Updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
