Updated Sept 11

The state of Tennessee began processing the $300 Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) unemployment benefit on August 26.

Eligible claimants will receive $300 in addition to the state’s unemployment benefit of $275. When combined with the new program, the maximum possible benefit in Tennessee will be $575 per week, before federal withholding taxes.

The grant requires claimants receive at least $100 in state or federal unemployment benefits each week to be eligible for the new LWA payment.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has informed the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development funding for the Lost Wages Assistance program (LWA) will end after the week ending Sept. 5, 2020.

Eligible Claimants will receive the additional $300 payment for the weeks ending Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and Sept. 5.

On Sept 1, the TN Dept of Labor and Workforce said LWA payments may be received separately from other benefits.

Eligible claimants currently receiving benefits do not need to take any action because the state will automatically add LWA to their weekly benefit payment.

Unlike the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program (FPUC) that ended in July, LWA is a grant with a specific amount of funding. It is important to note when the federal program exhausts its grant funding, it will no longer have the resources to provide LWA payments and the program will end at that time. If the federal program does not exhaust the LWA grant funding, payments will end in Tennessee on Saturday, December 26, 2020.

  1. No, you would not. If you read the description of who is eligible for the assistance it said, you have to be receiving $100 minimum of assistance to qualify.

  2. I received the August back pay, but have not been getting the extra weekly amount. I’ve only received state ui amount since 8/26. Will I be paid retroactively for those as well?

  3. When will Tennessee unemployment computers system be complete to start sending out are extra $300 benefits

  4. This is what I found out: “Tennessee received $236 million from FEMA on Aug. 24, enough to pay each eligible Tennesseans the extra $300 per week in retroactive benefits for the first three weeks of August. The Tennessee department of labor must apply for additional funding on a week-to-week basis, according to department spokesman Chris Cannon.”
–Hm… sounds like Tennessee needs to jump on applying for additional funding for it’s state, so that we’ll get the $300 weekly that our household needs. But boy is this a hot mess! Would’ve been so much easier for Congress to agree on these benefits so that it is the legislature, not FEMA.

  5. Has anyone received the extra $300 as of September 16th? I’ve been on unemployment since April 26th of 2020 and I have yet to recieve ANY extra FEMA funds here in TN since Trump signed the executive order even though I qualify for it, not to mention I qualified for the extra $600/weekly that ended 07/31/2020 as well and had NO PROBLEMS receiving those funds. I have kids and a wife. We need these funds. My wife is a 100% disabled Veteran so we’re literally weeks away from being broke IF this extra funding doesn’t come in at all or at least maybe and HOPEFULLY it will come in the form of a lump sum of $2007 in regards to the retroactive payments they owed me along with my $275/weekly via TNDOL+$600 /weekly via FEMA which equaled $875 BEFORE taxes. Is anyone else having issues receiving that Fema weekly $300 here in Tennessee??? Any and ALL advice would be MUCH appreciated. TIA.

  6. I’m in tn my last payment was in August now it started over and keep saying in progress since August we should be getting it any day now
