Description of Offense : Fraud / Scam
On 5/14/18 at 1825 hours an officer took a call from the complainant in reference to an iPhone scam. The officer was advised that the complainant attempted to activate her new phone and referred to Customer Service. She spoke to a subject only identified as “John” at 855-646-2011. “John” advised that she needed to go to the iPhone store and pick up iPhone gift cards that were valued at $100.00 , give him the codes and he could activate the phone.
The store only had $50.00 cards so the complainant purchased two of them. She did as “John” asked but it did not activate the phone. The complainant contacted what she thought was Customer Service again and this time spoke to Anna at 855-694-8220 and was given an email address of [email protected].
The complainant advised that she needed to go to another location and get another $100.00 in iPhone gift cards to activate the phone. She did so and again it did not activate the phone. The complainant advised that “Anna” told her that she would be reimbursed for her trouble, loss and gas. None of this occurred and she is out almost $300.00. The complainant wanted a report filed for this scam to assist with identification and keep others from being victimized.
