Earlier this month, US News released its listing of the top-ranked hospitals in the U.S. The list only contained 20 hospitals across the United States.
Vanderbilt University in Nashville came in at number 17 out of 20 and the number one spot went to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
To calculate the list, US News took both the specialty rankings and the procedure and condition ratings into account. Hospitals received points if they were nationally ranked in one of the 16 specialties – the more specialties and the higher their rank, the more points they got – and also if they were rated “high performing” in the nine procedures and conditions. The top 20 point-getters made up the Honor Roll, which has a maximum total of 480 points.
When ranking hospitals by state, US News placed Vanderbilt in first, followed by CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, and in third was the University of Tennessee Medical in Knoxville.
A separate list compared children’s hospitals in Tennessee with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt taking the top ranking followed by Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital-Memphis followed by St. Jude Children’s Hospital – Memphis.
