Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant has landed on the list of eateries across the country recognized as “10 Great American Breakfast Destinations” by USA TODAY.

“The food [at Puckett’s] is not just very hearty, it’s very good,” said food and travel writer Larry Olmsted, who authored the article.

Puckett’s was named to the USA TODAY list along with restaurants in California, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey and New York. Olmsted highlighted several of the Southern homestyle restaurant’s breakfast dishes, including the King’s French Toast.

“An homage to Elvis Presley’s beloved peanut butter and banana sandwiches, the King’s French Toast is country bread stuffed with bananas (or jelly) and peanut butter, then dipped and turned into French toast. It is very, very good and highly addictive, and if you love PB or bananas, or both, this is a must,” Olmsted wrote.

The article goes on to note Puckett’s signature staple, slow-smoked barbecue, which makes its way into the breakfast menu in the Texas Two Step, among others. The dish includes brisket hash, peppers, onions and a fried egg over a cornbread waffle and is “a combo that’s hard not to like,” according to Olmsted. He also calls out the the Bubba’s Eggs Benedict, Southern Stack and Country Fried Platter, closing the piece with a note that Puckett’s sources ingredients from local purveyors and farmers, when possible.

“Breakfast is where it all started with Puckett’s, and it’s at the heart of everything we do,” said middle Tennessee restaurateur Andy Marshall, CEO of A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. “Any time of day, we want people to remember the experience, and it’s an honor for our team to be recognized.”

First founded in a little country grocery store, Marshall opened the first Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in 1998 in Leiper’s Fork, Tenn. There are now five Puckett’s restaurants across the state, located in the downtown areas of Franklin, Nashville, Columbia, Chattanooga, and Murfreesboro. The restaurants offer an extensive breakfast selection daily beginning at 7 a.m., with a breakfast buffet available on the weekends.
