Blackman beat Riverdale, 28-26, in the “Backyard Brawl” game on Friday that marked the end of the regular season for both teams.
Riverdale running back Savion Davis scored four touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough.
Each team finished the regular season at 8-2.
Riverdale’s Davis broke off a 38-yard touchdown run help Riverdale even the game at seven, that coming after Blackman’s Adonis Otey opened the game with a 1-yard rushing score.
Blackman’s Connor Mitchell hit Jordan Brown with a touchdown later in the half, giving the Blaze a 14-7 advantage.
Davis scored on a 58-yard run for the Warriors, but Riverdale failed on the 2-point conversion attempt.
Blackman’s Mitchell then found Trey Knox in the end zone for a 21-13 Blaze lead following the point-after.
After scoring on a 21-yard run, Davis added a 5-yard run for the game’s last points, but again, the Warriors failed on the 2-point attempt.
Jordan Brown’s 39-yard TD run for Blackman midway through the third quarter wound up as the game’s deciding points
Both teams will head to the first round of the TSSAA 6A state playoffs. Blackman travels to Hendersonville, while Riverdale goes to Mt. Juliet.
