Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and the co-owners of JailCigs, which includes Arnold’s uncle and former administrative chief deputy, have been indicted on charges of public corruption.

Arnold and Joe Russell, the former administrative chief deputy, were seen entering the U.S. Federal Courthouse in downtown Nashville on Friday morning before 8 a.m.

Russell and John Vanderveer, Arnold’s uncle, were co-owners of JailCigs, a company which provided e-cigarettes to jails. The company provided the product to inmates at the Rutherford County Jail.

The United States Attorney’s Office has announced it will hold a press conference on Friday morning to announce developments in a significant public corruption matter.

FBI and TBI agents executed search warrants at the homes of Arnold and Russell and their offices on May 21, 2015.

Mayor Burgess had no comment, which seems to be standard.
