Nashville Armory Crime Story Header (1)At the request of District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led up to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon at 427 Double Springs Road in Rutherford County.

Around 3:00 PM, a deputy with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office came to that address to make contact with an individual living here, in response to a prior incident that occurred earlier this week.

At some point, a physical altercation occurred in the driveway between the individual and the deputy. During the altercation, the deputy fired his weapon, striking the man. The individual, Jeffrey Underhill, DOB 11/12/62, was transported  to Vanderbilt University where he is being treated. The deputy sustained minor injuries from the scuffle.

As is TBI policy, we will not provide the name of the deputy who was involved in the officer involved shooting; we will defer to the local agency to provide that information as they see fit.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Upon the conclusion of our investigation, the case file will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for his review.
