Day 2 of AAA Tournament
The lady Stars entered the second day of tournament play one game away from elimination. The Houston Mustangs were up first in a “do or die” game for both teams.
Siegel came out sharp in the first set, getting up early and never looking back. The Lady Stars would take the first set 25-17. The second set was a different story, as the Mustangs would take the early lead. Siegel would get down 24-16, but continued to battle in a 25-20 loosing effort. With the match tied at one a piece the Lady Stars would tighten up the reigns and take the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-16, respectively.
With just a little over a hour to catch their collective breathes, Siegel was back in action. Next up, The Lady Admirals of Farragut High. The Lady Admirals came into the game being the only team in the tournament to take a set from three time defending state champs, Brentwood. Once again the Lady Stars came out hot, taking the first set 25-20. Siegel looked like a team that needed to be rejuvenated in the next set, loosing 25-12 and being down as much as 22-6 in the set.
The second set was an eye opener for coach Robinson and his Stars who would bounce back to take the third set, 25-23. As the saying goes though, so close, yet so far away. The Lady Stars were one set away from making the state semis, but would be foiled by Farragut. The Lady Admirals took the next two sets to advance in the AAA state tournament. Coach Robinson’s squad finished the 2016 campaign an impressive 43-10
