Description Of Offense : Theft Over $1,000 x 2 , Possession of Theft Tools

On 12/12/2017 while on patrol at The Avenue, Officer A observed two subjects walking out of Victoria’s Secret ( referred to here as Man A and Woman A ).

The officer observed Woman A adjusting her shirt as if she had something under it. The man and the woman then entered into a vehicle with Davidson County registration. After a few minutes, Man A exited the rear passenger seat and placed clothing items in the trunk without a bag.

The vehicle then moved approximately twenty yards and parked again. The officer observed Woman A and two other females ( referred to here as Woman B and Woman C ) enter Osh Kosh B’Gosh and The Children’s Place. While in The Children’s Place, the officer observed Woman A and Woman C take items and conceal them under their clothing. They then returned to the vehicle then went back into the store where the officer observed them conceal more items then leave the store again.

The officer made contact with the women as they were entering the vehicle and observed Man A in the back seat placing an item in the seat pocket. It was later found to be a large magnet that is used to defeat anti-theft devices.

After being Mirandized, Man A advised that he had it in his jacket pocket. While speaking with Man A the officer noticed Woman C pull clothing from under her clothing and it throw it under the vehicle. In the pile of clothing was another magnet and upholstery tool also used to remove anti theft devices which Woman C later claimed as hers.

While speaking with Man A the officer noticed several clothing items with The Children’s Place tags in both the front seat floor boards and another magnet on the driver’s side floor and passenger along with two more upholstery tools.

Consent search and probable cause revealed $1,395.35 worth of merchandise from Victoria’s Secret, Osh Kosh B’Gosh and The Children’s Place. The items were scattered throughout the front seat, back seat and trunk and were mostly out of the bags. Another $1,774.73 worth of items from Ross were located in bags in the trunk.

After being Mirandized, all suspects involved admitted to stealing items from 100 Oaks Mall and stealing from some or all the stores in The Avenue. Man A stated he stole toys, backpacks and clothing from Ross and would bag the items the women had stolen, then putting them in the trunk, which is what the officer had previously observed.

Woman A stated she stole from all locations and confirmed Man A assists by bagging items and stealing. She then pulled additional stolen clothing out of her bra.

Woman B advised she had stolen from Osh Kosh B’Gosh and Ross and had her theft tools in the floor of her seat along with The Children’s Place clothing.

Woman C advised she stole from The Children’s Place and Ross and claimed ownership of items she put on the ground.

Based on the evidence and statements, all parties were arrested for theft and possession of theft tools. Once at the jail, Man A was found to have two Oxycodone on his person and was charged with simple possession. Woman C had an active warrant out of Wilson County. All victims were notified and cooperated with the investigation.
