Rockvale High School will be the newest public school in Rutherford County that will open its doors to 1,800 students in August 2019.
Rockvale will be a Class 6A school and will be the ninth public school in Rutherford county joining Blackman, Riverdale Oakland, Siegel, Eagleville Lavergne, Smyrna, and Stewarts Creek.
The Rockvale Rockets football program will be placed in region 3-6A with county teams Blackman, Riverdale, Oakland, and Siegel and now they know who will lead the program.
Rick Rice who has led Wayne County for 21 seasons and won the 2011 Class 1A state title has been named as the first head football coach for the Rockets.
“I’m really excited about getting started at Rockvale High School because its such a great opportunity and I look forward to working with Rockvale principal Steve Luker and building the program from the ground up,” Rice said.
Besides being the head coach at Wayne County (1993-2000 and 2006-2018), Rice started the football program at Perry County back in 2001.
