Stephanie Ellen Hill, age 53, of Rockvale, Tennessee passed away on July 26, 2026. She was born on December 9, 1972 in Tullahoma, Tennessee to Steve and Martha Hill.
She was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and went on to further study at Appalachian State University.
She is survived by her two sons, Alexander Mumpower and Colin Mumpower, her step son Josh Mumpower, his wife Priscilla and her Grandchildren Layla and Aurora. She is also survived by her parents Steve and Martha Hill, and her brother Craig Hill (Christa) and their children Benjamin, Grace, Samuel, and Sydney Hill and her brother Christopher Hill (Natalie) and their children Brynne and Clay Hill.
She also leaves behind many special cousins and her chosen sisters who accompanied her closely these last five years.
Stephanie’s greatest love was her boys. She loved being their mother, their teacher and their fierce advocate and hoped to help them become critical thinkers who knew real history and worked to avoid repeating the harms in it. In her last chapter, she wanted your presence, not your casseroles, and that was a rich place to dwell. She wanted human connection for all of us and wanted to be seen as a whole person, not a cancer patient.
Stephanie loved walking at the battlefield. She loved pollinator gardens, butterflies, books and sitting in front of the fire. If you were challenging a broken system and offering new solutions, she was your biggest cheerleader. Stephanie supported community building efforts like serving food with Murfreesboro Muslim Youth, organizing with Rutherford County Library Alliance and SOCM, making sure youth who felt left out and disconnected had a place to be safe and loved, and more. For years she made a request for us to support Metavivor for metastatic breast cancer research and patient support.
