This Thursday night the Murph will be hosting a different kind of champion, when Arcadian Wrestling hits the Campus at 7:00 p.m. Arcadian Wrestling , owned by Leah Hulan and sponsored by her company Grumpy’s Bail Bonds, has some new faces and familiar names in a power packed roster of veterans and up and comers. Hulan, a Riverdale and MTSU grad brings a family fun wrestling program back to her hometwon.
The highlight for this writer will be the meet and greet at 5:00 that evening. I will get to met many of the Arcadian roster, but to get a pic with not one but two of the greatest tag team wrestlers of all time. Animal, of the former Road Wariors and Billy Gunn , formerly of DX.
The LOD is still to this day my all time favorite tag team. Animal and Hawk ran roughshod over NWA, WWE and WCW, and Japan for over 2 decades. The Hall of Famer is also known for his famous son, James Laurinaitis, Pro linebacker who played at Ohio State. The Road Warriors were at one time led by Paul Ellering, who later retired to become a musher in the Iditarod. I met Animal and Hawk, who passed away in ’05, at the first ever NWA/WCW Wrestle War in Nashville in 1989. It was brief, but they were so nice and took the time to sign an autograph backstage. I’ve never forgotten that.
Then there is the whole other side of the equation, Billy Gunn. The former professional bull rider rode into the WWE in ’93 as part of the Smokin’ Gunns. Then he hooked up with the Road Dogg Jesse James to form The New Age Outlaws and became part of DX during the Attitude Era. We won’t mention the Billy and Chuck era, as it’s just to painful to re-live. Hall of Famer , multiple tag team champ and Intercontinental Champ, Billy has been a major role player in shaping wrestling into the popular form of sports entertainment it is today.
Also on hand will be Bram, the current TNA King of the Mountain. Add to that Arcadian’s Leah Hulan, Chase Stevens , a 3 time World Champ , and Cassidy Riley and others and it’s a pretty good deal for $25 and includes ringside seat and t-shirt.
