January 27th, at the Murfreesboro Armory, a war on Alzheimers will continue as fights erupt in Fight For The Mind 2.

Sponsored by Kia of Murfreesboro, Buffalo Wild Wings, Canna Energy, Advanced Financial and others: Fight For The Mind 2 is a benefit sponsored by Best of the Best Wrestling and promoter “Shooter” Shaun Balaban to raise money and awareness for the fight against Alzheimers.

Alzheimer’s effects the lives of many and those around them. We thought today we would present the facts on Alzheimer’s courtesy of alz.org :

What Is Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s is a progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility.

Alzheimer’s disease is officially listed as the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. It is the fifth-leading cause of death for people age 65 and older. As the population of the United States ages, Alzheimer’s is becoming a more common cause of death. Although deaths from other major causes have decreased significantly in the last decade, deaths from Alzheimer’s disease have increased significantly — 71 percent. In 2013, over 84,000 Americans died from Alzheimer’s according to official death certificates; however, in 2016, an estimated 700,000 people with Alzheimer’s will die, and the disease likely will contribute to many of those deaths.

Alzheimer’s is the only disease among the top 10 causes of death in America that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.

How Does Alzheimer’s Effect Tennesseans?

According to Alz.org , Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the state. Tennessee ranks 6th in the United States in Alzheimer’s death rates since 2013. There has been a 148% increase in Alzheimer’s deaths since 2000 in the state. In 2016 alone , Alzheimer’s was responsible for 971 million dollars in Medicaid costs in the state.
