Sgt. Oeser and Sgt. Nunley earn award in Georgia fugitivesâ case. Patrol Sgt. Derek Oeser and Sgt. Trey Nunley received commendations for coordinating the manhunt and capture of two Georgia fugitives wanted for killing two Georgia corrections officers.
Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh honored the sergeants Tuesday, saying they did a âsuper job.â
Patrol Capt. Rhett Rankin said the sergeants were professional and dedicated to the safety of citizens during the manhunt when Patrol Deputy Mark Gregory spotted the wanted suspects June 15 in Rutherford County.
The suspects shot several rounds at responding deputies on Interstate 24. They surrendered to a resident after a pursuit and were taken into custody. No one suffered injuries. Patrol Lt. Joe Gray said the sergeants coordinated the responding law enforcement agencies in the manhunt for the fugitives.
âI highly commend both sergeants for the outstanding job they did during and after this incident,â Gray said. Nunley joined the Sheriffâs Office 18 years ago and Oeser joined the Sheriffâs Office 17 years ago. Both sergeants supervise the evening shift.
