Smyrna Parks & Rec 2018 Volunteer of the Year Winners Announced

The Smyrna Parks & Rec 2018 Volunteer of the Year winners have been announced. These individuals will be honored Feb 15 at a banquet at the Smyrna Event Center. The event will be aired on Smyrna TV beginning at 7:00pm on Feb 15th.

Kenneth “Coon” Victory Lifetime Service Award
Bill Jordan – A lifelong resident of Smyrna, Bill attended Smyrna Schools and played football for coach Raikes. He has been a lifelong member of Division Street Church of Christ where he has served on the finance committee, chaired the missions committee, and guided multiple missions to Siberia. He has been a Deacon and currently serves as an Elder for the church. Bill has assisted the Town of Smyrna in many projects that led to the addition of greenways and parks currently a part of the Smyrna community. Bill has also been a stalwart of the youth sports community in Smyrna, where he has coached both football and soccer as well as served multiple terms on the board for North Rutherford Soccer/Stones River Futbol club acting as both treasurer and president. Bill has been
instrumental in the growth and success of the soccer program in Smyrna.

Young Leader of the Year
Ashley Barrientos – A senior at Smyrna High School, Ashley represents the best qualities of a student and young woman. A captain of the girls soccer team, which she led to back to back district championships. She achieved this success while excelling in the classroom even with a difficult and rigorous class schedule. Ashley was elected “Best All Around” by her peers, among many other accolades.

Coach of the Year
Warren Garner – A coach with the Smyrna Fastpitch League, is an excellent role model for his players who is sure to teach all of the girls with patience and respect. He carries this same attitude with not only his players of the multiples teams in multiple age groups that he coaches, but with the girls of other teams as well.

Parent of the Year
Katrina Jones – Katrina Jones, a parent volunteering for the last two years with the Smyrna Fastpitch League, immediately jumped in and became a team mom. Katrina was then nominated to serve as a board member where she currently holds the role of team mom director and lower division commissioner. She is always willing to help in
whichever role is asked of her no matter how big or small the task.
