Rutherford County Schools Release Statement Regarding Gun On School Bus Rumors

Hello parents, 

This is James Evans with Rutherford County Schools and this message is for parents whose children ride bus 209 from Christiana Middle School in the afternoons. We want to notify you of an incident we addressed this afternoon along with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. 

First, let me say that all students are safe. 

The driver of the bus heard someone yell something about a gun being on the bus. The driver followed protocol and pulled the bus over and called 911. The sheriff’s office responded immediately and thoroughly searched the entire bus and checked all students and their belongings for weapons.

We are happy to report that a gun was NOT found. 

Because of this investigation, the bus route was delayed. The bus has now resumed its route but your children will arrive home later than normal. 

I know these types of situations are frightening but we appreciate that everyone followed procedure and that this situation was a false alarm. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
