Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department responded to a house fire at 824 N Church Street just before 12:00 Sunday morning.

Crews arrived on scene to a two story structure with flames shooting through the roof. According to Acting Shift Commander Mark McCluskey, the upstairs portion of the home had fire coming through the roof and the dormer.

McCluskey said crews initially made entry, but were quickly pulled and made an exterior attack with the aerial to knock the fire down.

When conditions were safer, Firefighters were able to re-enter the structure and extinguish hotspots and conduct salvage and overhaul.

Fortunately, the home is vacant and no injuries were associated with the incident.

“The fire was contained to the upstairs, which is where we believe the fire started,” said McCluskey. “The downstairs did not receive fire damage, but received smoke, heat, and water damage,” he continued.

Assistant Fire Marshal Clay Malone was called to the scene to conduct a routine investigation. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
