Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Engine 4, and Brush Truck 6 battled a large brush fire at the back of Stones River Country Club (1830 NW Broad Street) near the river side around 2:30 Monday afternoon.

When crews arrived on scene they discovered smoke and flames rising from trees on fire.

The maintenance person from the golf course was using a hose pipe to spray around the brush pile.

Crews pulled the nozzle from Brush Truck 6 and wet down the area around the blaze. This continued until the decision was made by the country club to get a pump and hose to pump water from the river onto the pile.

“District 4 did a great job of locating the fire and directing other crews to it once on scene,” said Assistant Chief Kaye Jernigan. “Our main concern was the heat, but there were no issues.”

It is unclear what started the fire, as the maintenance person for the country club said the pile of brush was stacked to burn, but they did not intend to light it today for fear it would get too hot.
