While the classic dinner and a movie can be relaxing and a great go-to for those people who love to see the newest and greatest movie releases, doing that as your date every time you go out can get a little tiring. There, however, are tons of activities and events that break the mold of dinner and a movie, let you get to know your spouse and partner a little better, while having fun at the same time. Here are some great alternatives to the movie date night we know (and sometimes love).

Escape Games

These have popped up almost quite literally overnight and grown in popularity not only in our area, but in the national landscape as well and there’s a reason. They’re fun, unique, and great for couples and groups wanting a fun night out. The whole premise of the game is to escape from a locked room using your mind within the given time limit. Locally, try 60 Minute Escape or Murfreesboro Escape Room. 60 Minute Escape is located at 167 Mall Circle Drive Murfreesboro and Murfreesboro Escape Room is located at 1970 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro.

Take a cooking class

A cooking is a great way to be creative and learn something new with your significant other. Check out The Curious Kitchen. Everyone and anyone, regardless of skill level, can find something for them at The Curious Kitchen. They are located at 1602 W Northfield Blvd, Murfreesboro.

Try rock climbing

For the couples who are more actively inclined, rock climbing is a great go-to date night activity that couples can usually do together. Murfreesboro is home to a climbing gym called The Ascent, located at 831 Park Ave, Murfreesboro. Memberships are available, but you can also just buy a daily pass. See rates here. If you’ve never been climbing before, on your first visit, you’ll check in and fill out the waiver (if you haven’t already). Then you will get a quick orientation to the facility and the different types of climbing available. You will get one-on-one training with one of the staff members. They will go over proper bouldering technique and best practices for climbing and belaying. This will take about 15-20 minutes. Then it’s time to get climbing! The staff will show you how to read the wall and routes, and give you a couple of climbing tips to help you get the most out of your time at the gym.

Enjoy some live music

Music is everywhere – not just Nashville. Of course, Nashville has some great venues like the Ryman Auditorium and Bridgestone, but you can also find local musicians and songwriters performing all over Murfreesboro, like Main Street Music (527 West Main Street), Mayday Brewery (521 Old Salem Rd), Puckett’s Gro & Restaurant (114 N Church St) and The Boro Bar and Grill (1211 Greenland Dr), just to name a few.

Enjoy a night (or day) of Shooting

Going to the shooting range might not be the first thing you think of when you think “date night,” but for those who enjoy hunting or recreational shooting sports, it’s a great alternative to the standard date night. And for those who are not experienced shooters, it’s a great opportunity to learn something new together. Try Nashville Armory, right off I-65 which features climate controlled pistol and rifle rated bays and a training center offering a wide variety of classes for any skill level lead by certified instructors. Nashville Armory is located at 4290 Kenilwood Drive, Nashville TN 37204. They will open a location in Franklin soon.
