Patrol Deputy Christian Salter and Patrol Deputy Robert Neal became certified deputies after graduating from the 12-week Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Salter served as a detention deputy at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center before being promoted as a patrol deputy.
From his detention experience, Salter learned how to improve communications with people and to treat people fairly, no matter what their circumstances are.

“You can see what you can do for the community and better it,” Salter said of his view of being a patrol deputy.

Neal has 10 years of experience in the Tennessee National Guard as an infantryman.

“The National Guard has given me the confidence to handle the transition well,” Neal said.

He remains active in the National Guard.

“I like to help people and to problem solve,” Neal said.
