” This morning at just after 8:30 am, RCFR was called to respond to a residential structure fire as well as a patient with breathing problems. Chief Larry Farley, RE 52 and FAST 52 arrived on scene, discovering smoke coming from the residence. The resident had been cooking and placed a pan of grease on the stove – then fell asleep; during which time the grease heated to the point of ignition.

The resident was able to extinguish the small fire but was overcome by the smoke inside the home. The smoke removal process was successful, with no damage to the structure and the resident was transported for evaluation and care. Chief Farley explained that a large majority of residential structure fires are a caused by unattended cooking. He cautions everyone to never leave cooking food unattended. ” – Rutherford County Fire & Rescue
