Riverdale Warriors vs Stewart’s Creek Red Hawks
The Lady Red Hawks (20-5, 8-2) defeated Oakland to reach the district finals. Awaiting them, the undefeated, reigning State Champion Riverdale Lady Warriors (27-0, 12-0). Riverdale got past Smyrna to reach the finals.
The Lady Warriors put their 35 game winning streak on the line in this game dating back from last season.
Back in December when these two met for the first time this season Stewarts Creek gave Riverdale it’s closet game of the season. A seven point victory by RHS. The majority of Riverdale’s other wins on the season were 20 plus point blow outs. This would not be one of those blow outs.
University of Tennessee commit, Anastasia Hayes, was gliding up and down the court. Breezing by defenders at will. Despite her ability to get to the rim, Hayes wasn’t cashing in on those opportunities. Stewarts Creek on the other hand were turning their shots into points and a lead into the half, 31-29.
In the second half Riverdale would eventually get the lead behind Anastasia and Brinae Alexander’s intensified effort. In the last five minutes of the game the Lady Red Hawks would only score five points, obviously not enough to get past the State Champs. Anastasia Hayes would score 22 point in the victory. Her and her Lady Warriors would capture the District 7-AAA title to the tune of a 57 -55 margin over Stewarts Creek.
Next time Riverdale will be in action is March 8th at the Murphy Center on MTSU’s Campus. Tip time 10am.
