Let’s be honest, as women we love finding a new clothing store that carries the perfect pieces that make us feel great. After all, it’s terribly embarrassing running into someone you know at a party or event wearing the same thing as you. SHēk by Savannah, located on Eleanor Lane in a new strip mall, is the place to go for the hottest new styles.

Savannah Jackson recently opened this brick and mortar store after running an online store and doing pop-up shops for the last two years, beginning at the age of 17. Yes, the power behind this business is only 19, but when she sets her mind to a project, she puts in the work.

“Yes, I am 19,” said Jackson. “I often forget how young I am. I believe that age is just a number, and [it] shouldn’t hold you back from achieving your goals. I definitely owe my entrepreneurial traits to my parents, they both own their own businesses, and work so hard day in and day out. I am blessed to have been able to grow up with the example that they have set for me and my sister. They are also my biggest supporters, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”

But Jackson wasn’t always into fashion, she says that she was a big Tom Boy for most of her life. Her interest in fashion didn’t start until she began high school, yet it has grown since graduating.

“If you would have told my 10-year-old self that I would be where I am today,” said Jackson, “I would have laughed.”

When Jackson was looking for a location, she chose the north side of town because she felt there was a need for a store like SHēk in the area. She saw how fast that side of Murfreesboro is growing, and how people want more things to do closer to home without having to drive across the city.

She also really understands her target market, which is “more of younger women from 20-35,” although she has something for everyone.

“My grandmothers and their friends shop at my store all the time,” said Jackson, “along with my sister who is 16. So, I have something for anyone, any age, any size.”

Carrying sizes from extra small to 3X makes her different from many other stores, but mostly it is the styles she carries that sets her apart.

“I definitely think [my edgier style] comes out when I’m buying for my store,” said Jackson. “[But] I want everyone to feel like they can find something that makes them feel good about themselves.”

Surprisingly to Savannah, it is the edgier pieces that are selling the best, which makes her happy because that is her style. She loves that edge is becoming more popular. Her jewelry and shoes are popular as well.

The three most important things a woman needs to have in her closet this fall, according to Savannah, are a good pair of jeans, a denim jacket, and a pair of super cute booties. All of these items that can be mixed and matched together or with other items.

When coming up for a name for the store, she wanted a word that described how she wanted her clients to feel…stylish.

“I wish I had a better meaning behind it,” said Jackson, “but I really just liked the way it looked and sounded. I felt like the word ‘chic’ described my style, but [I] didn’t like how it was spelled, … so when I googled the word, I saw that the pronunciation … was ‘SHēk’ and I loved that.”

One of the things Jackson has learned by becoming a young entrepreneur is to work hard to achieve your goals, and to not be afraid to fail. It is what she wants others thinking of starting their own businesses to know. She is a great role model, becoming one of Murfreesboro Magazine’s 20 under 40 this year.

“Stepping out of your comfort zone will bring you the most success” said Jackson, “no risk, no reward.”
