OBITUARY: Iris Grim

Iris Delia Arroyo Machado Grim, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee was devoted to her friends and family. Born in August 1949 in New York City, she lived over thirty years in Middle Tennessee and died January 28, 2019, in Nashville. Her legacy includes a brother, Raimundo and his wife Ann; children, Priscilla, Frederick and his wife Jennifer, Gregory and his partner Katie; grandchildren, Sophia, Abigail, Asher, and Lucy. In addition to her family, she shared lifelong friendships with Andi and Erwin, Andrea and Lou, Brian and Claudia, Gloria, Marcy and Dale, and Nikki.

Mrs. Grim grew up between New York City and Barrio Islote, Puerto Rico before marrying her husband on the island of Majorca, Spain in 1970. She then supported him as he completed his education and established his career as a mechanical engineer. After moving to Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1980, with three children, she graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and worked for many years as a registered nurse. She served as a community member welcoming new immigrants with Spanish translation assistance and offering guidance to anyone in need of help navigating the healthcare system. Her fondest memories included serving alongside her husband as leaders of Boy Scout Troop 538 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, traveling with him to Europe and Puerto Rico, and filling her time with numerous friendships.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, and her parents, Iris and Raimundo.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral service at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home with John Hinkle officiating. A graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, TN, where Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen will celebrate the service of the resurrection.

The family asks for donations to be made in Mrs. Grim’s name to Meals on Wheels, in lieu of flowers.
