Thirty-three teams of players enjoyed a golf tournament to support Rutherford County Schools’ special needs students and scholarships for seniors. Teams competed in the 4th annual SRO Golf Tournament Saturday at Champions Run Golf Course in Rockvale.
Funds will be used for a Fun Fair field day for the special needs students in the spring and to pay for scholarships, said SRO Sgt. Dustin Cox, who coordinated the tournament.
“Overall, the turnout was the best one in four years,” Cox said.
The winning team who scored 21 under par were Connor Shell, Nick Bass, Joe Pierce and Cox. They earned a cash award they donated back to the special needs students and scholarships.
Golfer Anthony Combs shot the longest drive and Cox shot closest to the pin.
Cox gave “huge shot outs” to:
• Platinum sponsors Smyrna Ready Mix, TaylorMade for $5,000 worth of golf clubs and golf balls and The Covered Patio.
• The gold sponsors and hole sponsors.
• People and celebrities who donated to the auction and the golfers and bidders who bought the auction items.
• Donations from Stars and Stripes, Matt Cox and his business, Logo Brands, and Dan Franz of Dan Franz Concrete.
• The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association Vice President and Treasurer Libby Stark, member-at-large Rita Morrison and member Beverly Stark for registering golfers, collecting funds, conducting the silent auction and helping with set up and clean up.
• Champions Run Golf Course.
