William Shatner will be making his Opry debut on Feb. 15 where he will perform with Jeff Cook, co-founder of the country band Alabama.

It will be a celebration of their new country album “Why Not Me” (Heartland Records Nashville).

Best known as Captain Kirk on “Star Trek” and lawyer Denny Crane on “The Practice” and “Boston Legal,” Shatner has received countless accolades for acting, including two Emmys and a Golden Globe Award. While Shatner has recorded a spoken word album, this is his first country album.

Shatner has always been a fan of country music and even appeared on the CMA Awards in 2015 with friend/co-host Brad Paisley.

“I love country music,” Shatner said in a press release. “A lot of people I know are country artists, and I envy them. The terrible truth is that I can’t sing, but what I do have is a feeling for poetry. I am trying to fuse the spoken word with music.”

Cook, a veteran in country music has seven multi-platinum albums and over 30 number one records with the iconic band Alabama, which he co-founded.

At the Opry, the two stars will perform the title track from their new album, and Shatner will emcee part of the show in his inimitable style. “Why Not Me” consists of 12 songs — some funny, some serious — with guest vocals by Neal McCoy, Home Free and Cash Creek. Available on iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Music, Spotify and HeartlandRecords.net.
