Jeremy and Kellie Myers have been dreaming of opening a retail space under their White Monkey business name on Main Street for a few years now. In 2023, they planned to purchase a sizable piece of commercial real estate on West Main, which ended up not working out, so they launched White Monkey Market in January of 2024 on Middle Tennessee Boulevard. They have also recently launched The Urban Social, a small event venue, located in the same space.

“Originally we opened it as a division of our estate sale company to assist local families with those small personal collections,” explained Jeremy Myers.  “Fast forward to May 2025 and the good Lord strategically placed us at the corner of West Main and Walnut Street directly across from the Alley on Main restaurant. This is shortly after White Monkey Market transitioned into a full-time retail style shop. Who could ask for a better outcome! We are so honored and blessed with our new home at 224 West Main Street.”

White Monkey Market

White Monkey Market is a blended mercantile retail shop that operates under the support of multiple vendors, curators, and suppliers. They have some trusted local brands such as Hog Wash Soaps, Sanders Brothers Coffee, Anchored Hope Christian Clothing, and Mossy Hearth Bakery. They also feature vendors and curators who specialize in different new, used, vintage, mid-century modern, and primitive items for sale.

“We stock many local artisan items from the Murfreesboro area,” noted Myers. “If you purchase artisan items from White Monkey, you can count on them being crafted, created, or baked right here in our own community. Most of our artisan items are top sellers. Goods that local Murfreesboro shoppers can depend on being in stock at the White Monkey Market.”

Vintage and antique items are making a comeback.

“We see a large amount of shoppers between 16-25 frequenting the store and buying vintage and antique items,” Myers said. “Items that were made 50 plus years ago were simply constructed better and made to last. Can’t say the same for items you get at your regular big box office stores today.”

One of the most interesting items they have sold was an authentic primitive dough bowl with the original stand from the late 1700s. This dough bowl was big enough to hold about 50 pounds of bread dough. It would more than likely have been a community bowl shared by several families.

The Urban Social

The Urban Social was created to fill out the rest of the space at 224 West Main Street. Since 2018 the building has been used for a mix of retail and event space. So, the Myers followed suit.

“At first our goal was to collaborate with another event company and simply sublet the space to them and allow them to manage the space,” Myers explained. “Those efforts were fruitless. From that was born The Urban Social. We also wanted to launch The Urban Social so that we could invest in moments that are special to those in our community. We believe that everyone deserves a special moment and a special place for that moment to transpire.”

About 3,000 square feet of event space is available at The Urban Social, which includes restrooms, lounging space, dining space, and a small prep kitchen. The space is permitted and capable of hosting up to 50 guests at one time.

“Whatever your occasion or special moment, we would love to partner with you in curating an event that will be gabbed about for years to come,” said Jeremy. “Our space is available for business luncheons, seminars, birthday parties, showers of any kind, small weddings, and community interest groups. We are also interested in partnering with any small starter churches out there that may be looking for a space to meet in.”

The vibe at The Urban Social definitely comes from the couple’s love of all things urban and vintage. The space gives the feel of 1920s speakeasy with a dash of Hollywood glamour.

The Urban Social is available for rent seven days a week. They are currently offering rates of $130 per hour on weekdays and $150 per hour on the weekends. Special packages and rates are available to those needing half day and full day rentals. They also welcome nonprofit, school, and community groups at a discount.

Tables and chairs are available for dining and food display. They also have two large white display cabinets that are great for gathering gifts or giving tribute to the guest of honor. And they have a list of recommended vendors to help with food, drinks, décor and other extras.

White Monkey Market is available as an add on for any one renting The Urban Social. The Myers are happy to keep the market open for event guests for a small additional fee.

Urban Social rental forms can be found at www.urbansocialboro.net. White Monkey Market is still accepting new vendors and creating a vendor list for upcoming pop-ups and special events.

White Monkey Market may be found on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The Urban Social is currently just available through the website.
