La Vergne Wal MartAfter years of planning and construction, La Vergne residents can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel — a light that says “Savings!” The eagerly anticipated Walmart Supercenter is set to open in August. “We are overjoyed to have Walmart open here, and I am happy that the citizens will have the option to save money and shop smart here in La Vergne. I can’t wait to cut the ribbon so residents can start shopping,” said Mayor Dennis Waldron.

Walmart had been eyeing La Vergne as a potential site for some time, and now citizens can finally see the finished product. La Vergne Alderman Calvin Jones, who is on the planning commission, has played a major role on getting this project off the ground: “Being a neighbor to a growing city like Nashville has motivated us to keep La Vergne transitioning into an economically booming city.” The sales tax revenue is expected to boost the city’s budget, providing the funding for more growth in La Vergne. City Planner Kristen Costanzo, who also serves on the city Economic Development team, says, “One of our goals was to make the location convenient for residents.”

Located just off Murfreesboro Rd, the new Walmart Supercenter is hard to miss — with 186,000 square feet; this Walmart will be larger than the nearby store in Smyrna. Major features include a deli, pharmacy, and an expanded section of Hispanic spices in the food department. The La Vergne store is licensed to sell ammunition and firearms, which will found in the Sports and Outdoors department. Store Manager Debbie Cox says, “I am excited to be a part of the community and I’m looking forward to working in La Vergne.”

Mayor Waldron would like to invite La Vergne residents to attend the ribbon cutting and dedication on August 24th at 7:30am. For more information, go to www.lavergnetn.gov
