Oakland running back Xavier Myers and kicker Garrett Taylor have been named finalists for TSSAA Mr. Football awards.
Myers, a senior running back, is one of three finalists for the TSSAA 6A award. He’s joined by receiver T.J. Sheffield of Independence, and running back Devon Starling of Cane Ridge.
Myers has rushed 162 times for 1,622 yards and 27 touchdowns heading into Friday’s playoff game with Mt. Juliet, leading Oakland to an 11-1 mark.
Taylor is one of three finalists for Kicker of the Year, which spans all classifications. His competition is East Hamilton’s Mason Lafollette and Rossview’s Zaden Webster.
Taylor has hit 45 of 50 point-after tries, with three field goal makes on five tries. Forty-four of his 60 kickoffs have gone for touchbacks. He’s also punted 16 times for a 41.6-yard average, with six downed inside the 20.
The winners will be announced at a luncheon on Nov. 25.
Oakland two-way star Woodi Washington was a 6A Mr. Football finalist, but didn’t make the cut for the finals.
Eagleville quarterback Ethan Cobb was also a semifinalist for 2A Mr. Football.
MTCS running back Kemari McGowan was a Division II-A semifinalist as well.
