The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $64,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

The Smyrna Public Library is a certified location for this service in Smyrna. You do not need to schedule an appointment, as walk-ins are acceptable.

VITA is a nationwide program that runs from the end of January through April 18th. IRS-certified volunteers prepare tax returns for free for individuals and families earning less than $64,000 in 2016. During the 2015 tax season, more than forty volunteers completed 885 tax returns, resulting in $1.2M worth of savings.
